Vehicle Description
The 2014 BMW i3 is a thoroughly modern electric vehicle with spirited handling, quick acceleration, and spacious seats. It shares many design elements and even materials with its larger sibling, the BMW i8.
The 2014 BMW i3 is the only fully electric vehicle is one of the lightest electric cars in the upscale small car class. This four-door hatchback is powered by a 170-horsepower electric motor paired with a single-speed transmission and rear-wheel drive. Its 22-kWh lithium-ion battery gets an overall range of 81 miles. Our top-of -the-line i3 Tera come equipped with a range extender, which increases the overall range to 150 miles (up to 80 miles more range when in Comfort mode).
When the BMW i3 main battery starts to get low, the range extender kicks in to maintain the battery level as long as possible and allow the car to keep travelling at the same pace.
The owner can add gas to the engine as you would do with a regular gasoline car, but it must be stressed that this small added engine will never give any power to the wheels but it is exclusively used to maintain charge in the electric powertrain.
It is particularly enjoyable to drive, exhibiting a sporting character in terms of handling and acceleration. Its instant available torque off the line is phenomenal and the handling provides an athletic agility.
Driving any electric vehicle (EV) is a bit like driving the future, but the i3 is one of the only cars in this space that looks like the future.
If you want an electric car with premium features that is more fun to drive than a Nissan Leaf but you aren’t ready to drop $70,000 on a Tesla Model S, the BMW i3 adeptly straddles the middle ground between the two. Fun to drive is just an icing on the eco cake.
