Description

The Jeep Cherokee of the ’70s was Jeep’s way of keeping the ’60s Wagoneer image alive. It provided an off-road capable Sport Utility Vehicle (a term that was first used in the Cherokee’s sales brochure in 1974).

Indeed Jeep invented the term Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) that competed with the likes of the Ford Bronco or the Chevy Blazer of the days. The Blazer and the Bronco were both capable and affordable cars, but everyone had one. Doing away with the wood paneling, the Cherokee was a welcome substitute to the full-size 4×4 SUV market.

The Cherokee was a redesigned reintroduction of a two-door body style, with a single fixed rear side window with an optional flip-out section. It was marketed as the "sporty" two-door variant of Jeep's Station Wagon.

The styling isn't the only timeless part of the Jeep Cherokee's design. These Sport Utility Vehicles have an impressive reputation for reliability that's hard-earned and well-deserved.

These Jeeps are in high demand, and buyers are willing to pay a premium to own the nicest examples they can find.

This 1979 Jeep Cherokee Chief S was acquired by the seller on March, 2006.

It has a brilliant red exterior coupled with nice black decals that gives this vehicle a retro yet sporty appeal.

Tan interior trim with leather Recaro seats were reupholstered on May 2006. They are well maintained and preserved for the luxurious look. Best of all they are bucket seats that will hug the driver and passenger in place while on off-road adventures.

Tan vinyl trim features crank windows, and a steering column-mounted shifter, a three-spoke steering wheel, a like-new look dashboard with 100-MPH speedometer, supplementary gauges, and a five-digit odometer that reads 73K miles on the clock.

Power is from a rebuilt AMC 360Ci V8 with a Holley Avenger Carburetor paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and a Quadra-Trac four-wheel drive system.

A lot more information and records are available with the current owner. Come see and appreciate this highly sought after example of the original Jeep Cherokee Chief S Sport Utility Vehicle!
